Scoring:
The scoring is relatively simple. Each throw to the target has a chance to award points! The only way to score points is if your axe gets stuck inside the target. Any throw outside the target will not allow points, even if the axe is stuck in the wood. If the axe falls out of the wood before the axe is retrieved, then the throw will be counted as 0 points!
The black lines award points associated with the target. If the axe is in 2 circles at the same time or hits on a blackline, then the player is awarded the points for the higher valued circle.
The outermost circle is worth a single point. The second outermost circle or the 2ndring is worth 2 points. The 3rdring is worth 3 points. The 4thring is 4 points. The Bullseye is 6 points.
On the final throw of the game, each player is given a chance to hit one of the two blue circles inside the target also known as a kill shot. If hit on the last throw, you are rewarded a whopping 10 points!
The player at the end of the game with the most points wins!
Axe Throwing Distance:
Players will throw from the line marked on the floor, 12 feet away from the targets. If any part of the players foot is over the line, the throw will be counted as a zero.
Axes:
All WATL certified axes must confirm to be the same regulated standard. All axe heads may weigh up to 2 lbs. The blade on the head should be no longer than 4.75” in length. The handle may be made of wood, steel or plastic and length be at least 12” inches long, including the handle in the eye of the head of the axe.
Targets:
The World Axe Throwing targets are 4 feet in width and 6 feet in height. Targets should be relatively new and of quality prior to league commencement. The target’s boards should be switched out if the axes have trouble sticking due to excessive use.
